Wuthering Waves, the open-world action RPG and anticipatedGenshin Impactcompetitor, has released anew official teaser trailerfor the upcoming closed beta test on April 24 (registration ends todayon the official website).
The trailer hints at new scenes, characters, enemies, and stories that will be introduced in the beta, and mentions that the closed beta will be freely available for PC and mobile platforms such as Android, and iOS.
Kuro Game, the Chinese developer behind the popular 3D action RPG Punishing: Gray Raven, is now working to bring Wuthering Waves to life. Punishing: Gray Raven had attracted more than 30 million players worldwide (viaChinese outlet Gamebase) with its hybrid of visual novel-style storytelling and hack-and-slash action combat.
Wuthering Waves, however, is a very different beast with its Genshinic vibe, showcasing seamless open-world action gameplay that features dynamic combat and parkour actions such as wall climbing, grappling, and other parkour-inspired moves.

That said, Wuthering Waves diverges from its overt Genshin influence in character design by switching gears and plunging into a post-apocalyptic sci-fi setting reminiscent ofNier(most notably its freaky floating cubes that resemble visual computer bugs).
According to aprevious Dev Talk episode, the team plans to go all out by introducing full-length cinematics for all boss fights, along with environments tailored for each boss in future updates. But its important to note that the main idea here is to weave story, art, and gameplay together, rather than treating the art and cinematics as mere window dressing.
A prime example of this congruence, and arguably the game’s most outstanding feature, is theEcho System(formerly called the Wutrelic System). It allows you to absorb the abilities of your enemies (and even bosses) and use them to your advantage while your other abilities cool down.
Each monster has a specific purpose to “echo”; a move or ability that players can mimic or add to their repertoire. As a result, many monsters seem to fight just like you, with similar move sets, instead of just existing in the world as bullet sponges.
Giant and small monsters can also serve other purposes, such as calling the small ones to restore the player’s health, or transforming into the larger ones to use their skills for navigation and combat.
In addition, the characters have their own set of fighting techniques and tricks, but what makes them unique is that they can easily switch positions during combos using QTE moves, also known asthe Concerto Effect, resulting in a visually stunning and varied combat experience that relies on the integration of all gameplay elements into seamless combos.
