Of course, resources that are far away and in the middle of nowhere come with the highest risk of being eaten, and you’ll need to plan to avoid getting sunstroke or running out of water, since you won’t find a lot of shade or plants on the way. However, there’s one area that comes with at least a bit less risk for collecting Flour Sand.
Where to Find Flour Sand
Basically, you tend to find Flour Sand between dunes, which is also where you find sandworms. If you’re working with just a bike or buggy, then you’ll want to search for Flour Sandaround the bottom of the Vermilion Gap. This lets you stay close enough to dunes that you may head towards them for safety if you think that a sandworm is going to attack you soon. It also gives you a good way to duck into some shade if you’ve been standing in the sun for too long.
Collecting Flour Sand
However, there’s another risk that comes with actually collecting the Flour Sand. If you use your hands to grab the sand, that action creates vibrations, which makes you more likely to attract a sandworm. Instead, you want tocraft a Static Compactor, which lets you collect Flour Sand without creating vibrations, making an already dangerous task a little safer. In addition to the Static Compactor, it’s worth getting some soft step boots before going to farm Flour Sand.
In general, players suggest going out to farm Flour Sand in a group, partially because you can gather more sand faster when you have a lot of people collecting it, so you can finish the task and get back to safety earlier than you would by yourself. Aside from that, the safest way to collect Flour Sand is with an ornithopter, which limits your time creating vibrations on the sand in Dune: Awakening.
