What is a Wormhole in Pokemon GO? Answered

You may encounter Wormholes on your travels, and they function very similarly to Raids. StandardPokemonRaids always appear on a Pokestop with a giant Egg on top and a countdown. Wormholes will appear in the same places, but the big difference is that they count down to an Ultra Beast’s appearance.

If your response to that last sentence was “an Ultra, what?” Ultra Beasts were introduced to thePokemonseries in Gen VII. They aren’t called UltraPokemonbecause they are creatures from another dimension, hence the wormhole. Despite their origins, you can capture Ultra Beasts like you would a standard RaidPokemon. As with any Raid, once you’ve defeated the Beast in battle, you have a few chances to catch it. RaidPokemonare typically very hard to secure, so it’s worth spending a fewGolden Razz Berriesto make capturing them easier.

If you’ve not Raided before, these battles are designed to be tackled with a team. Typically, raiders will show up the moment the Raid goes live. You can see if anyone is waiting for the fight without spending a Raid Pass by tapping on thePokemon. If nobody is there, it’s worth saving your pass for another time, as you usually won’t have much luck alone.

How many Ultra Beasts are inPokemon GO?

At the time of writing, there are seven Ultra Beasts inPokemon GO, all obtainable from Wormholes. These include the following:

Most of these Ultra Beasts used to have restrictions on them, with many being tied to limited events. Now, these creatures are far more accessible, although you still need to defeat a 5-star Raid to get them.
