Dwayne Johnsonhas further proved why people love him so much by graciously and happily accepting a Razzie forBaywatch. The Rock has absolutely transformed his career from professional wrestler to one of the world’s biggest and most bankable movie stars. However, he’s not immune to the occasional misfire, which in this case isBaywatch. As such, the movie was honored at theRazzies, or The Golden Raspberry Awards, which celebrates the worst movies in Hollywood for that year. The event takes place the night before the Oscars and, though Johnson couldn’t be there in person, he took time to acknowledge and accept the award.

Taking to his Twitter account, Dwayne Johnson posted a video wishing his friends good luck at theOscars, but also to accept the Razzie thatBaywatchwas given. Johnson found a way to put a positive spin on the whole thing, asBaywatchwas actually give a special award: The Razzie Nominee so Bad You Loved it! Indeed, even when The Rock is at his worst, he’s a hard man to hate. Here’s some of what he had to say in his acceptance video.

“We made Baywatch with the best of intentions. It didn’t work out like that, but I humbly and graciously accept my Razzie, and I thank youcritics, thank you fans. And look, at the end of the day, a movie so rotten you eventually fell in love with it, that’s just the way love goes.”

Baywatchtruly didn’t work out the way that anyone had hoped. The movie made just $177.8 million worldwide, with just $58 million of that coming from the domestic box office. That’s shockingly low for a movie withThe Rockin it, considering thatJumanji: Welcome to the Junglehas made more than $900 million worldwide. ButBaywatchsimply didn’t do it for critics, earning a very poor 18 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. The fans weren’t even really on his side this time, as the movie also carries a pretty poor 56 percent audience rating.

Still,Baywatchat least walked away with a lovingly mean award at the Razzies. The Emoji Moviewas the big “winner” at the awards show, taking home Worst Movie, Worst Screen Combo, Worst Director and Worst Screenplay. Other recipients includedFifty Shades Darker(Worst Supporting Actress, Worst Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel) andBoo 2: A Madea Halloween, which earned Tyler Perry a Worst Actress award, since he plays a woman in the movie. Tom Cruise walked away with Worst Actor for his role inThe Mummy.

Dwayne Johnson also took time to wish this year’s Oscar nominees good luck saying, “I’m super pumped and very proud for my buddies who are nominated tonight. Pulling for you guys to bring home the gold.” He also noted that he wasn’t nominated for an Oscar this year, but mused, “Maybe one day.” Looking at something likeBaywatchmakes it hard to think that dream will ever come true, but is it really that crazy? Johnson has come a long way since his early days acting in movies likeThe Scorpion King. The foolish thing to do would be to count him out. The good news from all of this is thatBaywatch 2 is already being plannedwith the entire movie cast set to return.
