The remake ofPrince of Persia: The Sands of Timeremains a top priority for Ubisoft, which has just provided an update on the project’s development.

Ubisoft Is Actively Working on the Prince of Persia Remake

There are games likePrince of Persia Remake, the Splinter Cell reboot, and Beyond Good & Evil 2that, over the years and due to a lack of news, have sparked fears of cancellation.

All of them are Ubisoft projects, a company currently facing internal challenges and underperformance, leading to internal restructuring to keep its major franchises viable.

Despite this, the company isn’t abandoning these titles. In fact, Ubisoft has just shared an update onPrince of Persia Remake—and it’s good news.

Good News from Ubisoft

The French developer took to social media platform X to update fans on the game’s progress:

“Yup, we’re still in it—exploring, building, and making sure the sands are flowing for a good reason,” the post says.

“Prince of Persia Remakeis being crafted by a team that loves the saga. They’re putting all their heart (and lots of coffee) into every step of the process. Thank you for sticking with us.”

The announcement came with a captivating image from one of the game’s locations. If the final product looks like this, the wait will have been worth it.

Ubisoft had previously revealed during a shareholders meeting when the remake is expected to launch. Until now, all we knew was a vague 2026 release window.

The release will take place before the end of the current fiscal year—meaningPrince of Persiawill be available in stores byMarch 31, 2026.

That date will mark the end of a six-year-long and turbulent development. Originally announced in September 2020, the game had to go “back to the garage” and start over from scratch.

When it was first revealed thatThe Sands of Timewould be getting a remake, the initial trailer received a lukewarm reception—to say the least, it drew heavy criticism.

A Gap Between Major Releases

Ubisoft decided to cancel the original launch and rework the project into a more visually appealing and faithful remake. From there, development was handed over toUbisoft Montrealin 2022.

With Q1 2026 as the latest possible release window, this means it will be a full year after the launch ofAssassin’s Creed Shadowsbefore Ubisoft releases another game.

That’s an unprecedented move for Ubisoft—but one made for good reason. BothAssassin’s Creed HexeandFar Cry 7have been delayed to ensure they meet expectations.

The nextAssassin’s Creedisn’t expected before2027, butFar Cryis set to make a well-deserved returnby late 2026. It will be joined byPrince of Persia Remake, a game we can’t wait to see more of.
