Starring along with legendary actor Danny DeVito, Schwarzenegger played one part of a pair of fraternal twins who reunite after growing up. The film was directed by Ivan Reitman and was a huge success at the box office. There were plans for a sequel, but the film has spent a long time in development. Now, thePredatorstar has reinvigorated the project with a statement.

Will Arnold Schwarzenegger And Danny DeVito Reunite ForTwins 2?
Arnold Schwarzeneggerwas known for his larger-than-life action persona, where he spent most of the ‘80s and the ‘90s amping up the kill count to rival that of Sylvester Stallone in their action films. However, Schwarzenegger also had a comedic side to him that was used to varying levels of success by different directors.
One of the most successful comedic endeavors of Schwarzenegger was the Ivan Reitman-directed comedyTwins. The film sees him and Danny DeVito as twins, who are separated at birth and meet years later once they grow up. Schwarzenegger plays the role of Julius, the older brother who is book smart, while DeVito plays his younger street-smart brother Vincent.

The film was a huge success upon release and earned $216 million at the box office. The actors had reportedly struck a deal that earned them 40% of the box office profits and rentals, giving them the biggest paydays in their careers. Arnold Schwarzenegger had mentioned multiple times that he wanted to do a sequel and even told in aReddit AMAthat he would like to make it with DeVito and Eddie Murphy inTwins 2.

More recently, the actor met Danny DeVito to watch the latter’s Broadway playI Need Thatand posted a picture along with him onInstagram. TheTerminatorstar expressed his love for DeVito and even teasedTwins 2. He said,
“It was fantastic to see Danny on Broadway in I Need That. He and Lucy and everybody involved kept the audience entertained, laughing and loving every minute — one of the best plays I’ve ever seen, a true spectacle with heart!! I can’t wait to work together again.”

While there have been no official announcements, Schwarzenegger’s statement seems to be a hint at the much-awaited sequel finally seeing the light.

Arnold Schwarzenegger Had Once Said That The Sequel Was Canceled
A sequel to the 1988 hitTwinsseems to have been on Arnold Schwarzenegger’s mind for many years. The actor had mentioned the sequel multiple times over the years and had even mentioned that director Ivan Reitman was interested in the project. However, Ivan Reitman passed away in 2022, with the project ending up in the hands of his son Jason Reitman.
Arnold Schwarzenegger revealed toThe Hollywood Reporterthat Jason Reitman was the reason why the film was not being developed.Twins 2was said to see the lead duo return along with Tracy Morgan in a pivotal role. However, Jason Reitman reportedly canceled it. Schwarzenegger said,
“Jason Reitman f*cked it up…His father wanted to do it really badly. I wanted to do it really badly. Danny DeVito wanted to do it really badly. We had the financing. When his father passed away, Jason said, ‘I never liked the idea’ and put a hold on it.”
It looks like the world has to wait longer for Arnold Schwarzenegger and Dany DeVito to reunite again. The duo starred inJunior, which was also directed by Reitman while DeVito had an uncredited voice cameo in Schwarzenegger’sLast Action Hero.
