Ever since it launched on Netflix last month, fans have been obsessed withStranger Things, the streaming service’s love letter to the 1980s. While they haven’t yet officially announced thatStranger Things Season 2will happen, Netflix CEOReed Hastingsrecently stated that they would be “dumb” not to renew the show. Today we have new details on this imminent second season, including how the beloved character Barb may fit into this season. There will be SPOILERS if you haven’t caught up with the series yet, so read on at your own risk.
Even though she was killed off halfway through the season,Shannon Purser’s character Barb has become a cultural sensation. Last week, a comedy rap group known asDr. Chorizodebuted a hilarious music video tribute to Barb.IGNrecently spoke with series creatorsMattandRoss Duffer, who were asked if there was any chance we’d see Barb again, after she was last seen in the Upside Down. Here’s whatMatt Dufferhad to say below.
“I can’t see it happening. But Barb will not be forgotten. We’ll verify there’s some justice for Barb. People get very frustrated, understandably, that the town doesn’t seem to be really dealing with Barb. That stuff is all happening. We’re just not spending any screen time on it. It’s not like her parents are like ‘Oh Barb left. She died!’ Season One actually takes place over the course of six or seven days - it’s a really short period of time. So part of what we want to do with hypothetical Season 2 is to explore the repercussions of everything that happened.”
However, there is another character who is believed to be dead, who may return in theNetflix series.Matthew Modinestarred as the main villain, Dr. Brenner, who was attacked by the monster at the end of this season. While we never see him actually die, most assume his fate had been sealed, butMatt Dufferreveals that we have not seen the last of this nefarious character. Here’s what he had to say below.
“I would say that if we were going to kill Brenner… as an audience member watching the show, if that was his death, that would be very unsatisfying to me - whenthe monsterjumps on him and we cut away. He would deserve much more than that as an ending. So yes, there’s a possibility of seeing him again.”
The first season was criticized for copying or stealing scenes or general ideas from a number of iconic80s movies, but we don’t know if the Duffer Brothers will continue to pay homage to these 80s movies in the second season. It is believed that the main cast members will be returning, but nothing has been confirmed yet. No plot details have been released, but we’ll keep you posted as soon as new details surface.
