SPINE Brings Its Action to Switch 2

Spinehas revealed new details along with an additional platform where it will be available. It had previously been announced forPS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with two spectacular trailers.

Developer Nekki has unveiled a new gameplay trailer focused on the game’s “gun-fu” mechanics and combat system, which you’re able to watch below.

Perhaps the most interesting thing aboutSpineis that its action scenes are choreographed by professional action film stunt coordinators. At times, it even recalls Sifu, as the combat will be much more than just button-mashing.

The story follows Redline, who, thanks to a combat implant called Spine, will be able to face off against the threat of an AI. We’ll be searching for our missing brother in a cyberpunk city full of secrets.

The new gameplay trailer also confirms thatSpinewill be coming to Nintendo Switch 2, presumably on the same day as its release on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.

Hardcore Mode: No Room for Error

An unexpected addition, which could be available from launch, is thehardcore mode. It will be a haven for “no-hit” challenge lovers, as players must prevent Redline from taking any damage.

The twist in Spine’s hardcore mode is that Redline will wear glasses that must remain intact—meaning you can’t take a single hit. It’s a clever way to measure whether you avoid enemy attacks completely.

The game’s director, Dmitry Pimenov, talked about what the concept of “gun-fu” means and the combat mechanics:

“We want players to feel both like the star and the director of their own action movie, rewarding them with opportunities to perform creative takedowns by mastering the combo system and environment, while showcasing their combos with dynamic camera angles to fully immerse them in the action.”

Performance Expectations

It’s still unclear how exactlySpinewill run on Nintendo Switch 2, but we can expect performance similar to the other versions (at least in terms of framerate).

Since it’s an action game, we’re hoping it runs at60 FPSat a minimum, as that would best take advantage of the dynamic camera that follows Redline during combat.

Spine, the new obsession for action game fans, is currently in development by Nekki forPlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S,Nintendo Switch 2,andPCvia Steam. It doesn’t yet have a release date, so it remains uncertain whether it will launch in 2025.
