Rumours suggest thatOnePluswill be the next brand to get into the foldable smartphone game. OnePlus is a part of the BBK family, and sister companies Vivo and Oppo have both releasedfoldable devices, so we’re not too surprised to see OnePlus doing the same.
There was plenty of speculation that OnePlus’s devices would be heavily based onOppo’s Find N2andFind N2 Flip, but OnePlus has now confirmed that we won’t be seeing a Flip model in the near future. Recent leaks and some teasers from OnePlus itself have all focused on a tablet-style foldable, likely based on the upcoming Find N3.

This foldable is dubbed the OnePlus Open, and it’s expected to launch very soon. Here’s what we’ve learned so far.
When will the OnePlus Open be released?
Reports fromSmartprixandMax Jamborinitially said that the event would take place on Aug 04, 2025, but clearly, that didn’t happen. Just as August began, Max Jambor tweeted (viaPhoneArena) that the company would be pushing back its launch window for production reasons, which we will detail below.
It wasn’t long before we got more concrete information, though, as Roland Quandt ofWinFuturereported that the OnePlus Open is now expected to land on October 192023.

While this date is a leak and therefore could prove inaccurate, OnePlus has been teasing the event via a series of tweets, all containing the word “open”. So, all indications point to the launch being right around the corner.
OnePlus Open: Design
The same leak that revealed the potential launch date of the OnePlus Open (viaWinFuture) also gave us our best look so far at the OnePlus Open hardware. The report shared some official-seeming press renders that show the device from a variety of angles and in two colourways.
It seems the phone will be available in either a green finish with a glass back, somewhat similar to the OnePlus Pad, or a black option with a vegan leather back panel. It looks identical to the Oppo Find N3 thatleakedrecently and is expected to launch imminently - but will likely only be made available in China.
The OnePlus Open has a large circular, centrally placed camera array hinting at its photographic abilities. There’s also some prominent Hasselblad branding to reinforce this.
In addition to the renders, we’ve also been treated to a sneak peek video courtesy of Unbox Therapy. In this video, the camera unit is obscured by what looks like a black bit of foam, but you get a good look at the rest of the design.
Here, you can see flat edges and flat displays, with a low profile hinge and a pretty slim design. It also features the iconic OnePlus alert slider, with a nice knurled texture on its surface.
In the video, OnePlus co-founder Pete Lau says that the company holds 600 patents on the device’s hinge design, and it’s shown closing so tightly that you can pick up the phone using a piece of paper that it’s folded around. Impressive stuff.
Despite plenty of early rumours, the video also confirms that OnePlus won’t be releasing a flip version anytime soon. However, we do have theOppo Find N2 Flip, which has been released internationally and fills the same niche.
OnePlus Open: Specs and features
Older rumours about the OnePlus foldable originated fromPriceBaba, which reported that the device would be identical to the Oppo Find N back in April of 2022.
However, in the time since Oppo launched the Find N2, and we thought that it’s more likely that the OnePlus Open would be based on that. Now, though, we know that the Oppo Find N3 is launching very soon, and the OnePlus Open is expected to be essentially identical. The main difference is that the OnePlus phone will launch internationally, while the Oppo will be exclusive to China, as OnePlus has better brand recognition, at least in Europe and the US.
Rumours and leaks seem to be aligned on the big specifications for the OnePlus Fold, and they seem to signal an updated approach from the one taken with the Oppo Find N2 - namely in that it will have newer components and a larger overall footprint.
There’s a 6.3-inch AMOLED cover display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, a 7.8-inch 2K AMOLED folding display that also refreshes at 120Hz, Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset, 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and a 4,800mAh battery with support for 67W wireless charging and 100W wired charging - both of which presumably falling under Oppo’s SuperVOOC branding.
Back to Jambor’s tweet about a possible delay: the leaks blogger claimed that the OnePlus had originally ordered its foldable displays from Chinese supplier BOE but found them to be lacking in quality. The company’s subsequent switch to Samsung for screens may contribute to this move.
Branding from another company, Hasselblad, will grace the main camera set. It’s been said to feature a 48MP general-purpose shooter, a 48MP ultra-wide, and a 64MP telephoto with an undetermined zoom factor. 32MP selfie cameras will also be placed on each of the displays.
The device will feature a side-mounted fingerprint sensor and OnePlus’s signature alert slider. The device will run OxygenOS 13.1 instead of Android 13 out of the box.
How much do we expect the OnePlus Open to cost?
Rumours suggest the OnePlus Open will launch at $1700 in the US. Undercutting the Google Pixel Fold and Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5, but only slightly.
The Oppo Find N2 pricing also aligns well with this: in China, the Find N2 retailed at launch for 7999 CNY (~$1185). It never launched outside of China, but you may always expect to pay more in international markets, so we’d imagine the pricing would be closer to the proposed $1700 price if it did.
What will the OnePlus foldable be called?
Every pre-release phone needs a working name andMukul Sharmareported early on that the company had trademarked the names OnePlus V Fold and V Flip in China. We’ve more or less used OnePlus V Fold/Flip and OnePlus Fold/Flip interchangeably since then.
However, in July,Max Jambortweeted that the company was going to go with the rather unique moniker “OnePlus Open.” He also linked to EU trademark filings for “Open” as well as “Wing,” “Prime,” “Peak,” and “Edge.” All of these filings were made on the same day - April 27 - giving some credence to the notion that OnePlus was considering these names for its new foldable.
The “Open” name also has the distinct benefit of featuring the initials ofOnePlus as its first two letters. So, we thought it seemed quite credible. It wasn’t long before OnePlus would all but confirm this naming, though, with a tweet on July 26.
