In thisRevenantGuide forElden Ring Nightreign, we’ll explore how to play and master this challenging but powerful class, including how to unlock the revenant, complete her remembrance quest, and master a pathway through Limveld to reach the Nightlord at your best.
General Description
The Revenant’s gameplayrevolves around managing a group of summons that both attack enemies and keep them distracted while you work from the background to cast devastating incantations and occasionally step in to finish some off with melee attacks.
Since she is so squishy, staying away from enemies is usually your best bet, so the challenge of her gameplay is FP recovery and mapping out exactly where to go to make sure you get the gear you need.

To make your life easier, I won’t repeat the tips fromour Beginner’s Guide, but if you’re just starting out and want a better understanding of the game, make sure to check it out to save yourself several hours of frustration!
How to Unlock the Revenant
The Revenantmust be unlocked after you reachthe Roundtable Hold. Find the Small Jar Bazaar and purchase the item Besmirched Frame for 1500 Murk.
Once you have purchased this item, open your map and you’ll notice a new exclamation mark next to a character icon in the Roundtable Hold, near the sparring grounds.

If you approach this area, you’ll see a ghostly figure and get the option to interact with the ghost.
Doing so will commence a gameplay section where you must fightthe Revenantand all her summons at once, which can be challenging for thelower HP classeslikethe Recluse and Duchess.

I recommend you use one of the easier classes such asWylderto take on this boss.
Revenant Boss Fight:My strategy was to focus her and run around and away to lure her summons further, while dodging her incantation discs.

She does not have a lot of health so you deal quite a lot of damage two-handing or using the uppercut skill of the weapon. If this does not work well for you, you can try taking out the summons first, and positioning yourself so Sebastian (the giant skeleton) can’t get you with his powerful ultimate.
Once you complete the fight you will be able to play as her immediately by selecting her inthe Roundtable Hold. You can also begin her personal quest, the Revenant Remembrance, as soon as you start.

This remembrance is straight forward, you simply begin it from the journal and talk tothe Guardian, but he will then immediately task you with defeating aNightlord, which can be daunting when you first start.
The full quest details areon the wiki, but I recommend completing all remembrances as soon as possible as they unlock special chalices, relics and outfits for your character.
Stats & What That Means
The Revenantbegins the run with some ofthe lowest HPof the whole group, with apoor “D” ratingshared only bythe Recluse.
This means you havea measly 200HP to work with, and you can go down easily if you don’t stay with your group and use your summons well. You have a decentFP starting pool of 80, and54 staminato work with, giving you an immediate hint that you are meant to stay away from danger.
Your strength is withFaith, enjoying the highest rating in the game with an S. That means that incantations and faith-based weapons are what you should be focusing on, and you will be able to output great damage by using them.
Skills and How to Use Them
are a crucial differentiator for the Nightreign Classes, but this is very much the case for the Revenant, so you must spend your time understanding them and how they work. Like all Nightfarers, you have 3 skills:
Necromacy: Passive Ability
Raise enemy ghosts to fight as allies
This is yourpassive ability and it triggerswhen you defeat enemies.
From my playtime, it seems you must deal the killing blow for it to happen, so the party should be aware to let you finish off enemies whenever possible, particularly before the daily boss fights, as the waves of adds can become quite the small army of summons to aid your team by providing multiple new aggro targets and dealing decent damage depending on what you managed to bring back.
While initially confused about this mechanic, I eventually found it to be surprisingly useful, especially when I discovered you can raise the ghosts of field bosses and area bosses to help you.
Summon Spirit: Character Skill
Play lyre to summon fallen family to rally in battle.
The active skills are the mainNightreigncombat mechanic that distinguishes gameplay fromElden Ring, so mastering your character’s unique skills is quite important.
The Revenant’sunique skill is integral to her gameplay loop and one you must absolutely master if you want to play her effectively.
It works by summoning specific phantoms to aid you during your exploration and fights.
First, let’s explain the basic mechanics:
Next, let’s discuss the specific phantom qualities.
Helen: This is a fast dexterity summon who uses a rapier to do thrusting attacks and has quick footwork to evade enemy incoming attacks.
She is also much faster at getting to enemies and bosses than any of your other phantoms.
This ismy go-to summonfor most forts and small locations and the start of boss fights.
She is not very tanky so she will be defeated ratherquickly by the day bosses, but she can follow them a lot better and can also help dealing with adds when they are up. In generalthis would be your most used summon.
If you use your ultimate, Helen will also use her special skill that does several quick thrusting attacks in a row, faster than her usual fair.
Frederick: Frederick is a much heavier ally, using a large bone greathammer to deal blunt damage to enemies with overhead slams and aoe swipes that can hit many targets at once.
He is quite tanky and, while slower than Helen, is effective enough to chase some bosses around the arena and successfully get their attention, becoming a tank for your party.
This makes him ideal for summoning in areas with many enemies packed together in small spaces, or as a midway summon when dealing with night bosses. His ultimate activates when you use yours, and it’s a series of 360 AoEs using his large hammer, which will hit a large boss several times.
Sebastian: Your last summon is alsoyour most powerful. This giant skeleton spawns slightly to the left of your starting position and will not move from there, using alow damage AoEroar to get enemy attention, and then delivering massive overhead slams with its fists and frontalAoE damagewith its arm.
It has a special ultimate that activates when you do your ultimate art, producing a black stream of damage that works incredibly for flinching and damaging even the largest bosses.
This summon should be your go-to when doingthe Nightlords, but it can be hard to get the boss to focus on him and, since he doesn’t move, he can end up away from the fight. It’s thus best to summon him and activate the ultimate at the right time so you can get the most out of it.
Immortal March: Ultimate Art
Release vengeful ire to make self and nearby allies immortal.
This isyour ultimate techniquethat builds up by doing damage and attacking. It can be a rather underwhelming skill when you begin as you don’t have the understanding of when best to use it, but it’s eventually going to be responsible for the best clutch saves of your games.
This skill will first make you and the party immortal for a limited time via the effect“Temporary Invulnerability”.
If anyone is killed during this effect, their health will instead be zero, making it perfect for the boss burn needed when they are at really low health.
The other thing this will do is make your active summon execute its ultimate ability, so it can be strategic to do this early and late in aNightlord fight.
The Revenant Remembrancerelics influence this skill and make it more powerful, so make sure to do the quest as soon as possible.
Suggested Relics
Before we begin withthe relics, you should know that all characters have more than one container to perform rites in. Doing your remembrance quest unlocksthe Revenant Chalice, which gives you new color combinations to use on this character.
There are additional chalices to be gained from completing the quest, completing the final boss and for purchase at theSmall Jar Bazaar.
ensure you purchase them all and any special relics that show up there to optimize your choices. A full list of all chalices and relicscan be found on the wiki.
I personally usethe Revenant’s Chalicethe most, which providesBlue - Green - Any color. This is available by progressing the character quest, as are the best relic for the game.
As the Revenant, your relics play a very important role for your character. Since you are an incantations focused player,FP managementis quite important, and unfortunately there are quite limited options for the revenant to work with.
You can try equipping some but there are from melee-heavy weapons so I simply manage it by purchasing shards for the last boss run.
For your basic starter chalice, you should focus on gettingbuffs to your HP, Mind and Faith.
Elden Ring Nightreign Executor Guide
In this Elden Ring Nightreign Executor Guide, I’ll be sharing tips and tricks for the Executor Nightfarer
You should also try to pick buffs to incantations you like, such asBlackflameorDragon Cult.
Erdtree incantations can be useful for bosses who are weak to holy as well, so you can customize it based on what you are fighting.
This will of course be up to chance as you can’t guarantee you’ll get the matching incantation drop once you’re out in the expedition.
For the Revenant Chalice, you should make full use ofthe Revenant specific relicsthat you get.
My endgame combination is:Old Portrait, aTranquil Scenerune that gives buff toDragon Cult incantations, and theSmall Makeup Brush.
Old Portraitis a no-brainer, giving you aGhostflameexplosion when you do your ultimate, plus using your HP to fully heal nearby allies when you trigger, and making enemies fill up your gauge faster.
The Small Makeup Brush applies two unique status effects: Continuous HP Recovery and More Runes from Defeated enemies.
With these relics, you get a lot out of your ultimate, and you buff your performance during the whole run. Of course you can customize to your playstyle, so I suggest you have a look atthe Relics pageon the wiki to find effects that match your needs.
Suggested Weapons & Ideal Run
As one of thelowest HP classes, your objective during the expedition is to find specific weapons that will give you the right incantations. You should search for“Great Church”locations, there are always two on every expedition map.
Here you will find either a boss aboveground, or an underground passage leading to a subterranean boss. The underground churches are always better as there is a chest with guaranteedSacred Seals.
Like all classes, you should be aware that you can find the corpses of fellow players around the map and get their loot, so use grouppassword FEXTRAto increase your chances of finding well-geared remains to help you along.
Ideally your run will begin by clearing the first camp and getting to level 2 on the nearby bonfire, and then going straight to this location to get yourself some powerful incantations.
Lightning Spear and Blackflameare my favorites to get, but I have also been successful with Flame Sling. Traditionally powerfulDragon incantationslike all theDragon Breathsdon’t work as well as you expect because of the AoE and mobility of bosses, although they can be amazing for triggering status ailments.
However, the massive effect ones can be incredible, particularlyAncient Dragon’s Lightning Strike, Burn, o Flame and Scarlet Aeonia.
Check your nightlord’s weaknessesto pick the best element for your run and verify you getStarlight Shardsso you canreplenish FP during boss fights- buying these at world merchants is cheaper than at the last boss sodon’t forget!
You can also opt to get some melee weapons, but unless there’s a holy location where you can get a holy-based weapon, you need things thatscale with Faithso your options are rather limited by their default stats:The Coded SwordhasS scalingand can be good, but it’s a purple item so you have to doDay 2 contentto get it.
The Cleanrot Spearhas a Cbut can act as a decent offhand and may be paired with anFP regen effect, and has enough range and motion that you’re not full on in the action as something such as theGargoyle’s Black Halberdwould demand.
Following theRevenant’s Cursed Clawsthat you start with, you may also use theCipher Pataas it has anS scaling and holy damage, but it’s also purple so harder to drop.
Bows and Shieldsare not really for this character but you can pick some up if the random buffs are what you need.
In terms of buffs that you need for your character, you’ll want to get:
You absolutely should not forget to seek outTalismans. There are scarabs in fixed areas around the world that you can memorize and run to, or you can get a guaranteed talisman from the locked area inside the castle in the middle of the keep. This requires beating a sometimes tough boss so it’s usually done day 2, but you can get a purple talisman out of it.
The talismans you should be looking for are:
Party Composition
The Revenantis successful with any party, and can even work with repeat characters thanks to the summons doing the tanking for you.
If you get the right incantations, weapon effects and talismans, you can deal fantastic damage and really help takedown bosses. But your help ass off-tank and ally heals can also be very powerful so support your run.
My favorite party compositions for Revenant are:
Making this character perform best is entirely about finding the right equipment and rhythm. You should always have your summons out to maximize the buffs from your relics, and you should customize your relics to match the boss you are about to take on. If your teammates spend the time getting everyone the right gear and challenge powerful bosses, you can become a DPS and support star while also drawing aggro away from everyone.
