If you are doing a follow-up to the 2014 comedy hitNeighbors, of course you’re going to want it to be a little different. The sequel is planning just that as it gets officially titledNeighbors 2: Sorority Rising. And next year, after battling a couple of raunchyFrat Boys,Seth Rogenand his on-screen wifeRose Byrneare going to be going to war with the mother of allSorority sisters,Chloe Moretz, who confirms herself as the female lead.
Seth Rogenspent the final half of 2014 in the news for his controversial comedyThe Interview. Aterroristgroup demanded the film be canceled, taking responsibility for the massive Sony hack that saw quite a few embarrassing emails leaked. While the movie did decent numbers after it was officially released in a handful of independent theaters and on VOD,Seth Rogenfound greater success early in the summer withNeighbors. The comedy about a young married couple dealing with the birth of their first child as a fraternity moves into the house next door pulled in $150 million off a $18 million budget. It’s total global haul was $268 million. So of course a sequel was almost immediately announce. But as the year moved forward, we heard little about it.
It was announced in February that Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising is arrivingMay 13, 2016. That means shooting needs to start fairly soon. WithSeth Rogencurrently finishing thePreacherpilot for AMC, word on the sequel has stayed relatively quite. Until this past week, when the title and headlining cast were announced. Over the weekend, Chloe Moretz announced the casting on her personal Twitter page. She states the following.

It doesn’t take a genius to figure out the basic premise of the plot with a title like Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising. While no official synopsis has been released, it’s safe to assume that Chloe Moretz and her sorority sisters move into the house vacated byZac Efronand his Fraternity brothers. The couple will be forced to recruitZac Efronto help fight the new enemy. As you may remember,Neighborsended withSeth RogenandZac Efron’s characters becoming friends. Original directorNick Stollerwill return to helm this second installment. He will also co-write alongside Andrew Jay Cohen, Brendan O’Brien,Seth Rogen, and Evan Goldberg.
Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising will serve as a nice change of pace for Chloe Moretz. She has become known for much darker drama and genre fare, making a name for herself as Hit-Girl in theKick-Assfranchise. She also headlined the horror remakesCarrieandLet Me In. She recently wrapped on the sci-fi thrillerThe 5th Wave. It looks like Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising will be keeping its May 2016 release date, which has it arriving just one week afterCaptain America: Civil War. What do you think?
