Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Build For Beginners– In this Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Build guide, I am going to show you my beginner build for theDual Bladesand theInsect Glaive. For this build, I will be using the dual blades as the primary weapon and the insect glaive as the secondary weapon. If you are a player who prefers to stay aggressive with high APM, then this build is for you, as both of these weapons favour aggressive play styles with emphasis on learning the monsters’ attack patterns and dodge timing. They are also very movement focused weapons, making them stamina consuming and requiring players to manage their resources wisely.

Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Build for Beginners

This Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Build will focus on maximizing stamina management for the Dual Blades and Insect Glaive so that you can focus more on evading and dodging while weaving damage in with much less pressure to pay attention to your stamina consumption. With the extra stamina for these high agility weapons, you will be relentlessly attacking monsters with rapid and consectuive attacks, so we will also be complementing this advantage by adding a status effect to our attacks.

Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Build -Dual Blades

Barina Faucilles I

For the dual blades, the Barina Faucilles I from the LaLa Barnia tree is an amazing weapon for the early game. This is because it provides the paralysis status effect, which can render monsters immobile for a few seconds. With the fast nature of the dual blades, you can easily paralyze the monsters in the early game. With a base stat of 10% affinity for critical strikes, theCritical Drawskill on these dual blades provides an additional increased 50% critical chance whenever you perform draw attacks, making your overall damage output fantastic with an overall 60% chance for a critical hit with every draw attack.

Quematrice Sliexes I

If you are looking for a different option to the Barnia tree, the Quematrice Sliexes I from the Quematrice tree is good for the early game. With these dual blades, you will lose the status effect for the trade off of Fire Element damage which is effective against all the monsters you will be facing in the early game of Hunter Rank 1 to 3, with the sole exception of the Quematrice itself.

TheFocusskill on these dual blades will help you gain fill the demon gauge faster as well and this will help with your resource management.

Insect Glaives

The Insect Glaive, although not as fast as the dual blades, still have a fast attack speed compared to most other weapons and is great at applying status effects especially in conjunction with the Kinsect.

Barina Perche I

For the Insect Glaive, I like to use the Barina Perche I from the LaLa Barina tree since it applies the Paralysis im looking for, which is great even if it means you wont be utilizing theCritical Drawskill as often as you would when using the Dual Blades.

Balahara Glaive I

If you don’t want to focus on the Paralysis status effect, I recommend using the Balahara Glaive I. The Balahara Glaive is a Rarity 2 glaive and as such, you’ll have stronger attacks and level 2 kinsects.

The Balahara Glaive’s weapon skillPower Prolongerwill also help in your hunts because it prolongs your buff states you gain by extracting essence from the monster

Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Build - Focus

Although the Balahara Glaive is stronger compared to the Barnia Perche, its water element can be a weakness against some monsters in the early game, especially since the first apex predator you face, theUth Duna, is resistant to the water element. Additionally, since three of the seven monsters you will hunt in chapter 1 are resistant to the water element, the Balahara Glaive will be much less effective when you hunt them. If you do choose to go for this glaive and fight those monsters, I would recommend having a backup weapon which does not have a water element just in case.

For the Kinsect I went with theRigiprayne, which is raised from the Culldrone for more severing damage, since I wanted to focus purely on the server/cut damage. Alternatively, you may try theLadytargewhich is raised from the Mauldrone for some blunt damage if you want to stun the monster with your combos, depending on what you are going for. Both these kinsects work well with this Glaive as their powder also fills the monsters’ paralysis gauge when you trigger them, so they can stack up paralysis incredibly fast.

Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Build - Barina Perche I

The weakness to consider with these kinsects is that their speed is on the slow side and you will have to time their flights accordingly. If you had to evade far from the monster, there can be times where it can take a while for your kinsect to get the extract and return to you because of the distance created.

Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Build -Armor

The armor set I am using for this build is a combination of theBone Setand theBalahara Set.

If you’re a Dual Blades primary user, the build will use 3 pieces of the Bone Armor Set with theBone Helm,Bone MailandBone Coil. For the last 2 slots, 2 pieces of the Balahara Armor Set with theBalahara Vambracesand theBalahara Greaves.

Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Build - Balhara Glaive I

The 3 pieces of Bone Armor gives us the max level of the skillMarathon Runner, which will reduce the stamina consumption of the Demon Mode for the dual blades, so you’ll be able to stay in Demon Mode much longer, effectively twice as long, if you are just standing still and not evading. If you decide to use theQuematice Sliexesdual blades over theBarina Faucilles, it will make the resource management of your stamina and demon gauge even easier since you’ll get the Focus skill from the weapon as well as Marathon Runner from the Armor, which work very well in tandem.

The 2 pieces of the Balahara armor set gives us theEvade Extenderskill. This skill increases the distance of your dodges and perfect dodges, providing more mobility to the already agile Dual Blades moveset.

Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Build - Power Prolonger

If instead you’re an Insect Glaive primary user, this build will use 2 pieces of Bone armor Set and 3 pieces of the Balahara Armor Set, switching out theBone MailforBalahara Mail. Balahara Mail will give you level one for theQuick Sheatheskill, which shortens the time it takes for you to sheathe your weapon. Although the skill itself is not a crucial part of the build, it is a good skill to have to help with your mobility and will let you do more draw attacks.

Both the Marathon runner and the evade extender skills are also very useful for the Insect Glaive. The extra stamina from the Marathon Runner skill will help with your maneuvering while the Evade Extender will let you cover more distance during your vaults and combos. The added set bonus skill of Scaling Prowess, which increases the chance of mounting a monster, will also boost the already great mounting capabilities of the Insect Glaive.

For both weapons, if you’re comfortable with base evade distances, you can try out theQuematrice VambracesandQuematrice Greaves, which will give you 2 levels of theFlinch Freeskill, preventing tripping.

Monster Hunter Wilds Dual Blades Build -Talismans

For the talismans, you have a variety of options that are easily available during the early game. TheGlutton’s Charmtalisman, which offers theSpeed Eatingskill level 1 is quite useful as it will speed up your item consumption and help you recover faster.

Or you’re able to go for theImpact Charmtalisman, which will give you one level ofFlinch Freeto prevent knockbacks from regular attacks.

If you decide to go with the Quematrice armor instead of the Balahara armor, using the Impact Charm will get the max level of flinch free, preventing all knockbacks and tripping.

For drawbacks, this build relies mostly on the agility and the mobility of the Dual Blades and the Insect Glaive, so even though it offers a decent amount of defense, you are still on the squishier side of things. As such, you will need to upgrade your Armor with theArmor Spheresas they become available when you progress through the story and reach the end of chapter one (Hunter Rank 1 - 3).

Progression Route

At the end of chapter one, you’re able to keep using this build with upgrades to the armor using Armor Spheres for the added protection from the increased defense values. As you already have a well rounded elemental resistance, you don’t need to worry about that at this point

For the Dual blades, if you want to keep using the status effect build up, you can upgrade into theBarnia Faucilles IIfor the paralysis.

The added weapon skill,Critical Statuswill help you apply paralysis even faster with the 60% affinity chance of the draw attacks

Or if you want to use fire, choosing the simple progression route withQuematrice Sliexes IIis also good as the added skill level ofFocuswill fill the demon gauge even faster.

If you are looking to spec into a different element at this point, you can upgrade into the Uth Duna tree with theUth Ngarpatu I, which will help with your progress into the new region.

For the Insect Glaive users that want to inflict status effects there are two different trees you can go into. You can upgrade into theBarina Perche IIfor the Paralysis effect or craft theStealth Glaive Ifrom the Nerscylla Tree for the Sleep status effect. Both are viable options since both will level up your kinsects to level 4 and the monsters you’ll be facing from this point in the story are not resistant to either of these status effects.

Final Thoughts

This early game dual blades/insect glaive build focuses on making the most out of the stamina provided by Marathon Runner allowing you to be even more mobile with little downtime complementing the aggressive playstyle of these weapons.

For the Dual Blades, the Paralysis status effect will help provide an greater window of opportunity to deal the full combo of Blade Dance using both demon and archdemon mode. If a monster is paralyzed, you will get enough time to deal a full combo of Blade Dance (Y+B > RT >RT >RT >RT or Triangle + Circle >R2 >R2> R2>R2). Even if you are not using theBarina Faucilles, If you manage to topple the monster, you can do up to two full combos during the topple with the stamina you get just from the Marathon Runner skill.

Whether you are using the Balahara Armor set with the Evasion Extender skill or not, learning the dodge timing is crucial for success when using the dual blades as the buff you gain from perfect dodges will help with your hunts.

For the Insect Glaives, learning to weave your kinsect marks and attack in between your attacks will make triggering the status effect a lot faster from the kinsect powders. This can be easily done in focus mode, as your kinsect will strike the monster in tandem with your strikes. Also, with the added ability to charge the kinsect before shooting it straight through the monster, it is easier than ever to extract all three types essences quickly with a single attack.

The insect glaive is still the best weapon for mounting monsters and it is even easier if you have the Master Mounter Skill gained from using three pieces of the balahara armor set will increase your chances even further. The mounting attack is also a great way to extract essence reliably.

Another useful thing to learn is to build a habit of charging your descending slash (B or Circle after any combo starter) while you are in the air as the strongest attack available to the insect glaive can, the Rising Spiral Slash(LT + B or L2 + Circle) can only be performed after a strong descending slash. A well struck Rising Spiral Slash will get you at least two essences back, and it will keep your damage high during your hunts.

Lastly, due to the fast nature of these weapons attacks, you will go through the sharpness levels quite fast, so do not forget to sharpen when you get the chance as getting your weapons dull mid combo is never a good feeling. Also, even though the main advantage of this build is the reduction of stamina drain from using the demon mode and dodges, it is still important to keep your eye on the stamina and manage accordingly during your hunts.
