Swen Vincke, the CEO ofLarian Studios,joked about the development of their new game, saying it might not be ready for another five years.
Larian Studios Approximate Date for Its Next Game
The creators ofBaldur’s Gate 3have made their next project, which won’t be a DnD sequel, one of the most anticipated games. Although the details are still unclear, Vincke hinted that “it might not be ready until five years from now.”
During the SEA Game Awards, Vincke commented that their next game should be ready by 2028 or 2029. After the event, he clarified to IGN that he knew the statement would make headlines, adding, “It was just a joke. I don’t know [when it will launch]. These are big games, and they take time, so don’t hold us to a date.”
Larian Faces Pressure to Match or Surpass Baldur’s Gate 3
Vincke avoided giving any hints about their next game—though at least two are in development—but acknowledged that after the massive success ofBaldur’s Gate 3, which won multiple Game of the Year awards in 2023, they are in a “very stressful” situation.
Normally, any studio would rush to work on a sequel immediately, but Larian has rejected this idea. Hasbro, owner of Wizards of the Coast, has invested over $1 billion in its four studios to satisfy Dungeons & Dragons fans.
“I remember many Star Wars games that weren’t what I expected as a player, but when high-quality titles were released, the audience responded. We need to be authentic and focus on quality,” said Dan Ayoub, head of digital product development at Wizards of the Coast.
