There are very few support weapons to use inMonster Hunter Wilds. Most are aligned with being focused on outright offense or defense with very little party support being offered. Some weapons will provide support by allowing you to essentially be the party tank or DPS units, but there isn’t another weapon other than the Hunting Horn that will allow you to take on the support role.

This is what makes the weapon special in the series, it will allow you to support your team in some unique ways and keep the party alive while taking on the toughest of monsters available.

Learning Your Notes

To perform and use your melodies with the Hunting Horn, you have to store them via attacks. YourLeft Swing,Right Swing, andBackwards Strikeattacks will be how you perform notes. Each color per note with the Hunting Horn is going to be different per weapon crafted, but you can easily identify them by the shape and corresponding button attached to them. The top right section of your screen will display these at all times while you have your weapon out and will be a nice and easy cheat sheet of sorts while you are under pressure from a monster and still learning the weapon.

You can use and store up to three melodies at once with the Hunting Horn. TheNote Meterwill also show you any corresponding melodies that can be performed as well, which can help you come up with extra ones to play if you need something quick and easy while focusing on a monster. When lining up all three melodies, they can be used back-to-back with thePerformmove. Once you perform all three, you can then perform an Encore to buff your existing buffs to your party.

Store Your Special Performance and Use Echo Bubbles

These are two moves that will be exceptionally useful at all times while on hunts.

TheSpecial Performancethat each Hunting Horn has will be a huge portion of what you can do with the weapon. This will vary per weapon, with some providing defensive buffs or actual healing. These are some great melodies that you can store and use at any time and keep them ready for when your party is in a tough spot. The other action you can perform is theEcho Bubble, which also provides various buffs depending on your hunting horn of choice. Echo Bubble will put down an area-of-effect buff for your team to stand in while also giving your attacks additional ticks on the monster and also providing increased evasion and movement speed.

The Self-Improvement and Attack Up melodies greatly benefit from Echo Bubble, making it something you will want to be up on the field as often as possible.

The Hunting Horn isn’t the highest damage-dealing weapon in Monster Hunter Wilds. But what it may lack in damage, it makes up for by buffing your allies. It has a variety of different melodies with each monster variant you’re able to craft, allowing you to make highly defensive builds to keep a party safe or specialized healer builds. The Hunting Horn is more about enabling your party to perform well and take down a monster quickly and effectively. It requires a unique playstyle, but almost every party of hunters will greatly benefit from a dedicated Hunting Horn player.
