The next major update for Fallout 76 is Wastelanders which will bring NPCs to the desolate world. However, according to a recent interview, the designers may have already surpassed their budget for NPC dialogue.
Fallout 76 Designers Exceed Budget for Wastelanders NPC Dialogue
Fallout 76 will be receiving a batch of NPC life come April, introducing human NPCs finally to the online game. In a recent interview at Bethesda Game Days between the Pete Hines and USgamer, Bethesda have exceeded their budget to get NPC dialogue completed. According to Hines:
They went much beyond what they were budgeted to do because designers can’t help themselves. So they blew past their word count budgets.

Hines shared that it’s not about the quantity that the designers concentrated on but rather the replayability it will offer players:
…content generation is the answer. There’s just no reasonable cadence that you can put out large volumes of quest content, that will keep up with the extent to which players burn through it, because it’s gonna take you six months, nine months, a year to make content that they’re gonna burn through in two weeks.

The main focus for theWastelanders expansionalso won’t be onPvP, but Hines assures those who enjoy the PvP aspect “won’t be forgotten”. The update is meant to fix the lack of life, the dialogue choices, factions as well asquestbased content.
Fallout 76 undoubtedly had a rocky start, with receiving a lot of backlash with the bugs and the very empty world that players were presented with. But Bethesda has not simply left the world of Fallout 76 untouched, they have been preparing a number of updates, this includes Wastelanders which was delayed until April of this year.
