The side quest “Short Sighted Ambition” inDragon’s Dogma 2starts when buying items from the apothecary,Isaac, inBakbattahl. The man will ask your help in procuringRipened Quincein order to help him with his eyesight.
Bring Back a Ripened Quince
These yellow fruits are uncommon inBattahl, but you might discover one by exploring the western area. Alternatively, you may obtain them more consistently by defeatingGoblins, who often drop 1 or 2 Ripened Quince. I ended up finding one after killing a goblin in the Digger’s Ruins while also doing the “Dulled Steel, Cold Forge” side quest. Once one of these has dropped, you can go ahead and return to Isaac in Bakbattahl with the Ripened Quince. If it’s not ripe, you can always wait on a bench until it is ready for delivery as well.
Patience is a Virtue
Deliver the Ripened Quince to Isaac, and he’ll express his excitement in reading thegrimoiremore. Go ahead and wait a few days for him to be ready for you again. When you return, he’d like to ask another favor of you, despite now being down one eye after reading this totally normal and not at all cursed grimoire. You are to find the second volume of the grimoire for Isaac now. He desperately wants to read the whole set of grimoires.

Finding the Grimoire
This is where the quest will break off intotwo directions. See, Isaac wants this grimoire so badly he’d sacrifice his eyesight for it. His wife and child, on the other hand, would prefer that he did not receive the second grimoire. I chose to bring him a fake, as I didn’t want this poor man losing another eye to whatever cursed object this actually is. This is done by going back to theCheckpoint Rest Townand buying the second grimoire fromIbrahim’s Scrap Store. The grimoire is named “Transference of Souls 2” and you can then request that Ibrahimforgethe book for2,400 gold.
Deliver the Grimoire
Once you have the “Transference of Souls 2” forgery named “On the Transit of Souls 2”, go back to Isaac’s shop in Bakbattahl. This is where you are given the choice to shape the rest of Isaac’s life. Follow Isaac to the other side of his building where he’ll attempt to use the new grimoire. If you give him the forgery labeled “On the Transit of Souls 2”, he will give up any pursuit of using them further. But if you choose to give him the real one, “Transference of Souls 2”, his wife and daughter will die. Regardless of your choice, this will mark the ending of “Short Sighted Ambition”.
Quest Rewards
If you save Isaac’s family from his own ambition, you will receive16,000 gold.
