Dragon’s Dogma 2 is an expansive open-world RPG that features tons of different systems and mechanics, some of which can take a bit of time to wrap your head around. Even something as simple as leveling up and acquiring new skills can feel a bit confusing at first, but don’t worry because this guide will give you a quick rundown of how everything works.
Your skills in Dragon’s Dogma 2 are tied to your Vocation.Every Vocation in the gameoffers a specific set of skills, which are divided into two categories – weapon skills and core skills. While there is some overlap between certain Vocations, you may expect each one to bring something unique to the table. You’ll automatically get access to a small handful of skills right off the bat regardless of which Vocation you’re playing and can gradually extend your repertoire as you gain more experience with that class.

Experience Points Vs. Discipline Points In Dragon’s Dogma 2
Your character’s progression in Dragon’s Dogma 2 relies on two types of resources. Namely, Experience Points (XP) and Discipline Points (DCP). Experience Points increase your character’s level while Discipline Points increase your Vocation’s rank. you may expect to gain various amounts of XP and DCP whenever you defeat enemies and complete quests. As you progress, your character level will inadvertently start growing much faster than your Vocation rank. This is very much an intentional design decision.
Similar to other RPGs, leveling up in Dragon’s Dogma 2 occurs once you gain a certain amount of XP and brings with it a variety of bonuses, such as increases to your base Health andmaximum carry weight. Ranking up your Vocation, on the other hand, doesn’t confer any immediate bonuses, but whenever you gain a new rank you’ll gain the opportunity to unlock new skills. However, you won’t be able to do so while you’re out in the field.

If you have enough Discipline, you may change Vocations as often as you want.
How To Acquire New Skills In Dragon’s Dogma 2
To unlock new skills for your character, you’ll first need to visit a Vocation Guild. These can typically be accessed via innkeepers in villages like Melve or the Borderwatch Outpost and have their own establishments in large settlements like Vernworth. Once you find an NPC that lets you access the Guild Hall, choose the ‘acquire/equip skills’ dialogue option to access the upgrade menu. You’ll be able to unlock new skills from there provided you have enough DCP.
While you can unlock a plethora of weapon skills for every Vocation, you can only equip up to four of them at any one time, so choose carefully. In addition, players also have access to a couple of supporting core skills that complement their weapon skills. It’s worth noting that the Vocation Guild allows you to acquire new skills for both the Arisen and their main Pawn. However, that option won’t be available for hired secondary Pawns since they are meant to be replaced at regular intervals.
