The team at White Rabbit has finally released the lastDLCforDeath’s Gambit: Afterlife. The DLC, titled Ashes of Vados costs $5.19 due to the 35% launch discount. The reduced price will last on Steam until August 21, 2025. This DLC aims to deliver the final leg ofDeath’s Gambit: Afterlife’sstory. But completing the entire arc won’t be as straightforward as one would think. Players can expect several new modes in this iteration, similar to how captivating, intricate, and challenging the gameplay was back in Afterlife. Through all of this, however, it’s certainly bittersweet to see a passion project come to an end after years of dedication.
Death’s Gambit - Ashes of Vados New Features and Game Modes
You’ll be able to get your hands on a lot of new and different features in Ashes of Vados. These include brand newbossesto fight, a platforming challenge to push your reflexes and response times even more, and a Combat Arena that’ll determine your survivability. The DLC promises to add another layer of challenge to an already difficult yet satisfyingMetroidvania.
Ashes of Vados encourages you, Sorun, to payAsha visit to defeat her. Doing so will not only move the main story forward but also will lead you to another boss encounter against the mysterious Eldritch Hand. Additionally, there’s also a Boss Rush Mode that lets you revisit past encounters. What’s cool about this feature is you can choose whether to fight them again in Normal difficulty or to up the ante via the Heroic version.

Put Your Mettle To the Test
But what’s Death’s Gambit without its amazing platforming gameplay? For those who enjoy this component of the game, we have some good news! The Halls of Cruelty will be open to players who wish to add more difficulty to the game. Here, you’ll be able to test your platformingabilitiesto determine if you’ll live or die. Can you make it out alive?
In the trailer, there’s a snippet showing Sorun flying and dashing across thorny spikes and flying enemies to reach higher areas. This scene reminds us of the long-winded levels inHollow Knightthat require skill and mastery to survive.

On top of this, there’s also a new Combat Arena. This will definitely test your durability and endurance as waves of enemies will be coming at you. In the trailer, you can even see that in one scenario you have to survive 15 waves. Talk about putting your mettle to the test!
Modifying Various Game Modes and Rewards
Ashes of Vados features additional game modes that you can alter to change your experience with the game. For instance, Randomized Items causes all item pickups to be random. You can also choose to make all bosses more difficult via the Heroic Forced Mode. The Madness Mode makes it so that all the items you’re wearing, except for weapons, will be destroyed the moment you succumb to death. And lastly, you have the Fink Mode, allowing Fink to suddenly appear at random moments of the game to put up another fight.
These various game modes are a welcome addition to the already impressive amount of content that the DLC has to offer. To make matters more exciting, you’ll be receiving new rewards when you complete each and every one of them. This encourages replayability for Death’s Gambit: Afterlife.
