Dark Side of the Ring Continues

Dark Side of the Ringis Vice TV’s most-watched program in the network’s history. We’ll see soon enough if the ratings keep up with the new season, though the show has continued to generate interest in the meantime with its availability on streaming. The show’s success has also inspired multiple spinoffs at Vice, such asDark Side of Football,Dark Side of the ’90s, andDark Side of Comedy. Another wrestling-themed docuseries produced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson,Tales from the Territories, was also developed for Vice.

While the subject matter is dark and disturbing, the show’s creators hope to help bring some catharsis and closure for the family members and others affected by each particular story. Co-creator Evan Husney says that they never want to exploit anyone for the sake of the story, but feel like they’re helping by giving people an opportunity to come to terms with tragic events.

“We never want to just be exploitation vultures circling over these potential subjects and just getting them to tell us about their darkest times without having their be some catharsis, or some positivity, a light at the end of the tunnel that can inspire somebody else or is just good for them,” Husney said, via 411Mania. “I also think the show is cathartic for those in the business who aren’t directly involved in some of these stories. When they can see their former colleagues, what they went through, and maybe understand them a little bit differently there.”

He added, “So, that’s really kind of one of the key sort of aspects that we look for with our show, which is we want to be able to create that platform where people can talk about these difficult subjects, but to get it out in the open and have the truth be a healing sort of thing.”

The fourth season ofDark Side of the Ringwill premiere on May 30 at 10 p.m. on Vice TV. Episodes of the show can also be found streaming on Pluto TV, Tubi, and Hulu.
