This is big news for Apple and Apple TV+ — and for Crudup, if he cares about such things. For the company, it’s the first major win of an award like this, andThe Morning Showis basically brand new, having only launched to the public in November. Of course, Crudup was not the only one to get nominated from the dramatic series, though.
Both Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston were nominated for Best Actressby the Golden Globesin 2019. Crudup, along with Steve Carell, Aniston, and Witherspoon wereall nominatedfor various Screen Actors Guild (SAG) awards, too.
Only Crudup has brought home the trophy from the Critics’ Choice Awards, though.
It’s not a secret thatThe Morning Show— along with the other original series that launched Apple TV+ in late 2019 —was pannedby critics for the first three episodes. However, as the series went on many who doubted the show started to come around. The Morning Show, along withFor All MankindandSee, all had promising first season endings.
Meanwhile,Dickinson, starring Hailee Steinfeld, was pretty well received right out of the gate and also finished strong enough.
As for Crudup, he absolutely deserves the award. And he should’ve won it from the SAG, too. The actor’s portrayal as Ellison was one of the stand-out elements of the series.
