Assassin’s Creedreunites Academy Award nominee Michael Fassbender and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard with theirMacbethdirector byUbisoft Motion Pictures, DMC Films and Kennedy/Marshall this Christmas. It was co-financed by RatPac Entertainment and Alpha Pictures, and will be distributed by 20th Century Fox.

Michael Fassbender actually playsdual rolesin Assassin’s Creed, as Callum Lynch and a 15th century Spanish Assassin named Aguilar. It has already been confirmed that this adaptation will be set in the same universe as the video game series. Filming on Assassin’s Creed began in Malta this past September and concluded earlier this year. Michael Fassbender hinted in an interview last year that Callum is an outsider who has been institutionalized since he was a teenager. The actor also described this character as a “lost soul” who finally starts to uncover his true lineage.

20th Century Fox and New Regency are already developingAssassin’s Creed 2, with Michael Fassbender set to return as Callum Lynch. Assassin’s Creed arrives in a very crowed Christmas market this December, opening just one week after Lucasfilm’sRogue Oneand Collateral Beauty starring Will Smith. It will debut in theaters the same day as the big sci-fi epic Passengers starring Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt. The movie already has a built-in fan base from the beloved video game series, but we’ll have to wait and see how many of them turn up to see Callum Lynch.
