In the variety of enemies and bosses you’ll encounter inWuchang: Fallen Feathers, it is always a matter of time until a bigger boss rears its head in your direction. Ai Nengqi is one of these bosses. He sports a bigger frame than many of the ones you’ve encountered until now. On top of this, he will use a variety of attacks and status effects that make it harder to close the distance to hit him.

Ai Nengqi Phase 1
While he makes it difficult to get close, it is still a manageable fight for several reasons.
Unlike many other bosses, Ai Nengqi doesn’t take nearly as much stance damage, so for this fight, you will need to rely on your reflexes while you slowly keep pressure on him to keep that stance meter from falling back to zero. You should also know that you can summonNianto help you with this encounter. While he doesn’t do much damage or have a ton of health, he is still a great help in taking attention away from you to buy time and get in close to output damage into the boss. Using theBone Whistleto receive support from Nian might just help you turn the tide of the fight if you are struggling.
When you enter the boss arena and start the fight, you will see Ai Nengqi in the center, waiting for you to challenge him. At this point in the fight, he will usually jump across the entire arena and land at your position, slamming into the ground beneath him. This leaves you with just enough time to summon Nian for help and dodge out of the way and deal some damage when you dodge out of the way.

Melee Attack Combo
Phase 1 for this boss is mostly dedicated to his varied ranged attacks to catch you off guard. However, there is a melee combo that he will utilize occasionally. He will raise a swordover his headand repeatedly sweep in front of him5 times total. This isn’t something that he will often do during the fight if you’re lucky, but if he does, you may deflect it with the Longsword easily and negate any incoming damage.
Ranged Attack Combos
After the initial slam into the ground, he may perform several attacks, with a large portion of his moveset revolving around ranged attacks. The main one being where Ai Nengqi will jump backwards away from you, using a spell to bring out an electric bow that willshoot 5 electrified arrowsin your direction. These arrows will be evenly spaced out and fairly easy to dodge. If you dodge into the arrows just as they are about to connect, you can close the gap to the boss.
However, there is a follow-up bow attack that can happen immediately after the first. At times, the second bow attack may not look like the boss is aiming at you, but the arrow willalways track to your position. Both attacks are deadly as these will afflict you with the paralysis status effect, so you need to be careful and dodge based on the visual queues that the game is going to give you. There is also a chance that he will shoot a second shot right after the first, so always keep an eye out for the bow when it’s in play during the fight.

Paralysis won’t stun you; this status effect will briefly reduce your damage output.
Ai Nengqi will also plunge his hand into the ground before throwing outpillars of icethat explode from the ground. This attack will fan out, and if you are further away, there are some safe spots to stand in. One of the follow-up attacks that can happen right after this is where he will jump into the air and hover in place for a brief moment while he readies his bow for another shot.

While this fight isn’t traditionally difficult, due to how every boss has played out until this point, you may have some trouble. This fight will be a test of your resource and martial skill management. If you are using more than one weapon type, you may want to have several different weapon skills available to help with maintaining a close distance to the boss.

Ai Nengqi Phase 2
This phase is similar to phase 1, but now he has a new augment to some of his attacks.
To mark the phase transition, Ai Nengqi will stomp the ground and emit a large area of effect stun. Just like Lu Hongliu’s stun, you will need torepeatedlypress the dodge button to break free. The boss will then apply fire to his sword, swinging it twice while launching fireballs around the map.
After throwing around fire, he can then transition into a new version of his bow attacks. Instead of targeting you directly, he will aim up into the sky and shoot avolley of arrows. These arrows will create acirclearound him, strikingthree timesand getting further from the boss each time. When you see the initial windup for the attack, you can make sure to back away briefly, then get close to the boss to avoid any additional arrows that make their way into the arena.

The rest of Ai Nengqi’s moveset for phase 2 isn’t anything new; the rest of the attacks will be slightly powered-up versions of his phase 1 attacks that are still just as easy to avoid. If you keep up with poking the boss and allowing the stance meter to build up throughout the fight slowly, you can stun him when he’s at a quarter of his health left. This will be devastating to him as theObliterate Attackwill take out most of the remaining health, and his animation when he gets up will allow you to easily finish the job.
Ai Nengqi is more of a spectacle than anything else, and quite fun to fight when you know what to expect. Almost any weapon will work well against him, and defeating him will force you to rely on consistent damage while dodging through his various ranged attacks. You can’t deflect or clash with the majority of his moveset, but you can augment your weapons Martial Skills to get close or back away quickly.
